There’s a herd of Elephants in the room this Christmas

The phrase “The elephant in the room” means….

If you say there is an elephant in the room, you mean that there is an obvious problem or difficult situation that people do not want to talk about. Difficult situations and unpleasant experiences. The Cambridge English Dictionary

So I am sober and everything is supposed to be brilliant because I stopped drinking and my drinking was the cause of all our and my family’s problems.

So easy to say, everyone nods their head, clutching their Champagne, looking at you with pity in their eyes.

“So true, so wonderful you saw the light -everything is so much easier now that you don’t drink.”

Which is basically saying that you and you alone were the reason for everybody’s problems.

Fast forward to later on that day, after the Champagne, and the white wine, and the red wine, and then possibly a liquor or brandy and a lot of food.

Except for your Elderflower or whatever ghastly cordial you have been given this year.

And they are all arguing, and shouting, and being rude.

And here’s the kicker.

To you.
