There is an endless debate in alcoholic circles about which comes first the addiction or the underlying problem. I am firmly in the latter camp as you need to tackle both the symptoms and the causes of the disease, including the ROOT cause.

So, if you decide to STOP or TAPER the stages of RECOVERY will be similar but different. Just as everyone’s experience differs in terms of time and intensity, so it differs in terms of order: cause or symptom.

THE STEPS OF ALCOHOL RECOVERY

Here is a basic outline of the steps that recovery tends to take unless you are lucky enough to experience a spontaneous remission. Which is often claimed by AA members; the story goes that they went to their first meeting and that was that. These stories rarely if ever detail any detox processes they made have gone through, but many of them, by their own admission, were heavy drinkers.
